Tunnel Excavation and Drilling
Power Mining provides excavation and drilling services for underground rock construction. Our special expertise lies in vibration-sensitive urban infrastructure projects, both new builds and rehabilitations, as well as mine development drifting in underground mining.
Urban infrastructure projects: We’re used to working in demanding urban infrastructure environments, such as city centers, groundwater areas, and hospital sites. These projects require precision, and we have extensive experience in jobs where controlling vibration, dust, and air overpressure is critical.
Mining construction: We carry out, for example, full-scope mining contracts, production blasting, and mine development drifting.
Excavation services:
We provide all excavation and drilling work related to underground rock construction, excluding diamond drilling. Typical excavation projects include:
- Tunnel profiles of all sizes in infrastructure projects, from tight technical spaces to large cavern and hall profiles
- Widening and raising excavations in rehabilitation projects
- Production blasting and mine development drifting in mines
- Shafts
Methods and techniques
The method is always selected to suit the site. We use both blasting and non blasting approaches, including:
- Longhole drilling and the Alimak method
- Electronic detonators in vibration sensitive areas
- Non-explosive excavation by rock splitting
- Wire sawing and pre drilling before excavation
Safety and environmental control
Especially in urban infrastructure and rehabilitation projects, taking the surrounding environment into account is essential in excavation work. We pay particular attention to:
- Vibration sensitivity and vibration monitoring
- Protective measures required for excavation, such as blast walls, matting, dust tight sealing, and air pressure control
- Dust management and minimizing the site’s environmental impact

Mining
At infrastructure and mining sites, we work in tunnels ranging from large tunnel profiles to small widening/roof-raising projects, as well as production mining. Shaft sinking based on the longhole or Alimak method.
We have solid expertise and equipment for tunnel excavation. We have several years of experience in using electronic detonators on a daily basis in vibration-sensitive areas.
Our personnel have a long pedigree in shaft excavation for mining and infrastructure projects. We take an innovative approach to digging shafts in challenging locations.
Includes hydraulic splitting on difficult sites.
Rock reinforcement
Infrastructure projects: full range of rock reinforcement and shotcreting, using a shotcrete robot, rockbolting, wire-mesh reinforcement. We also do manual drilling, wire-mesh reinforcement, and shotcreting on small sites.
Mining sites with our own machinery: cable bolting, wire-mesh reinforcement and all types of rockbolting.
Scaling
We have done both manual and machine scaling in our own tunnel projects.
Mucking
Mucking: We also handle excavated rock.
Grouting
Rock grouting is an essential part of safe and sustainable tunnel construction. It is used to reduce the permeability of the rock and improve its sealing properties. The goal is to prevent water migration within the rock mass, which extends the service life of the structure.
